DRUG REGIMEN FOR TREATMENT OF MONO-RESISTANT TUBERCULOSIS

Tuberculosis is a chronic granulomatous disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is often hard to treat tuberculosis due to development of resistance against single or many drugs used for the treatment of tuberculosis. Therefore, combinations of anti-tubercular agents are used for treating the active TB and to prevent relapse.
In mono-resistant tuberculosis, patients develop resistance to any one of the anti-tubercular agents used. In such conditions, anti-tubercular drugs other than the resistant drug could be used to treat tuberculosis.
Resistant drug: ISONIAZID
Initial phase: Rifampicin, Pyrazinamide & Ethambutol for 2 months
Continuous phase: Rifampicin & Ethambutol for 7 - 10 months
Resistant drug: PYRAZINAMIDE
Initial phase: Rifampicin, Isoniazid & Ethambutol for 2 months
Continuation phase: Rifampicin & Isoniazid for 7 months
Resistant drug: ETHAMBUTOL
Initial phase: Rifampicin, Isoniazid & Pyrazinamide for 2 months
Continuous phase: Rifampicin & Isoniazid for 4 months
Resistant drug: RIFAMPICIN
Regimen for multi-drug resistant TB is used for treatment
