If an adult is not breathing or is only sporadically gasping, or if they don't respond to queries or taps on the shoulder, perform CPR.
When children or newborns are not breathing regularly and are not reacting, perform CPR on them. For children and newborns perform CPR using 2 fingers but following the same procedure as performed on adults.
Execute the following standard CPR procedures after making sure the place is secure:
- Call the Emergency helpline or ambulance immediately or ask someone else to call.
- Open the person's airway while they are lying on their back.
- Verify whether they are breathing. Start CPR if they are not breathing.
- 30 chest compressions should be performed.
- Perform 2 rescue breathes (1 second each)
- Continue until a medical professional or automated external defibrillator (AED) comes.
