SPERM COUNT IN MEN REDUCED BY 50% - SHOCKING STUDY REPORT
A new study
conducted by researchers at Hebrew University found that the sperm count in men
has been reduced by 50% in the last 50 years. This study report made healthcare
to take this serious issue into consideration.
Sperm
counts dropped by 1.2% per year from 1973 to 2000, which is a lot," said
Hagai Levine, who helped lead the research. The decline was 2.6% per year, from
2000 to 2018.
The exact
reason for this drastic decline in sperm count is unclear. "We do not
understand the reason for this pattern, so we think it might be hard to be
alarmist for an individual," said Dr. Michael Eisenberg, a urologist who
focuses on male fertility and sexual function at Stanford University in
California.
Oligospermia
is the term used to describe this condition in men, whereas a complete absence of sperm is called azoospermia.
If one’s sperm count is fewer than 15 million sperm per milliliter of semen,
then it is said to be below the normal limit.
POSSIBLE CONTRIBUTING FACTORS IN
REDUCING THE SPERM COUNT:
1) The first and foremost habit that
contributes is SMOKING.
2) ALCOHOL adversely affects testosterone
and reduces the sperm count
3) When a man gets obese, the fat
tissues that cover the testicles get overheated and result in a decline in
sperm count.
4) HEAT SOURCES: Heat-generating devices
such as laptops when used by keeping in laps for a prolonged period of time can
adversely affect sperm count.
4) BATHING: Bathing in a hot water tub has
a great impact on this condition
5) OTHER TESTICULAR FACTORS:
- Older
age
- Testicular
trauma
- Certain
past infections (syphilis, mumps, malaria)
- Varicocele
enlargement (which can often be treated surgically and non-surgically)
- Testicular
cancer
- Chemotherapy
and radiation therapy
PREVENTIVE MEASURES:
1) Quit smoking
2) Avoid or limit the consumption of
alcohol
3) Reduce body weight
4) Do regular exercises
5) Avoid frequent hot baths
6) Use a cooling pad when using
Laptops
7) Avoid more frequent sexual
intercourse and masturbation
8) Prevent sexually transmitted diseases.
